Week 1 - Purposes of a Music Video

 The music video that I chose to focus my homework on was Eminem - Not Afraid. Towards the start of the video, there is an aerial shot of the artist Eminem. This angle makes Eminem seem like he is godlike as he is placed above everything else and is looking down on the things below him. the song is abut how he had to deal with his problems like his drug addiction and rehabilitation. This camera shot could show how he has overcome his problems and is now on top of things.

Close up shots are used in the music video when they zoom into Eminem's face. This has been done so that the artist becomes the main focus point. The close up shot is used to show the artists emotional state and the emotions that he is feeling. For instance in the close up below you can see that Eminem looks stressed and angry. This shot draws the viewer in and they share the artists feelings. Also, the close up shot could have been used to promote the artist himself.

n the music video a deep focus shot has been used which shows the foreground, middle-ground and background all in one shot. The foreground in the shot is the artist Eminem, the middle-ground is the river and the closer city and the background is the city in the distance. I think that this shot was used to show how Eminem has now cleared his head as the setting around him seems still and there is a clear blue sky and is not chaotic.

The 'not afraid' music  video uses an over the shoulder shot in a part in which Eminem is looking at himself in a mirror. Typically, over the shoulder shots are used to show a connection between two characters but in this music video it doesn't seem like their is a connection. It looks as if Eminem is looking at himself in disgust and feels like he no longer knows who he is. On the other hand, this shot could show that the artist is slowly getting to know himself as in the shoot it does look like he may be confused. This shot can also give the viewers an insight on how Eminem views himself. and adds realism to the video.

Styles, conventions and techniques homework 

The music video that I chose was Lil Yachty - Fresh Off The Boat. 

• The video has used stop motion animation. 
• The narrative of this music video would be interpretive because the video isn't connected to the lyrics. 
• The cuts are timed to cut to the beat. 
• The artists are lip syncing the lyrics. 
• Chroma key or a green screen was used when they added the bird in the video. 
• Several video effects were used such as mirroring. 
• There is product placement for things like Range Rover.

Film Study homework one

The film that I chose was the 40 year old virgin. The genre of this film is a romantic comedy. I know that this is a romantic comedy because it followed the typical storyline of a boy meeting a girl. The boy ends up being the main character of the film and wants to find a partner. The film also included some sexual scenes. The film is shown in the point of view of the male character and how he cant find someone to have a relationship with. A lot of humour was also included throughout the film and this supports the comedic part about the genre. The audience can relate to the film because it is set in an everyday scenario of the male characters everyday life.
